DACIA IN THE USA

In 2011, EMC Envision Motor Company based close to Des Moines, Iowa introduced on the market the world first electric Dacia vehicles. The Dacias were electrified in the USA.

At the introduction of the car, the Dacias were equipped with a lithium-based battery that gives a range of 210 miles per charge. The charge time was from 2 to 3 hours.

The first price tag was : 33,950 $ for the pick-up version and went up to 37,950 $ for the station wagon.

Dacia could start to produce electric cars according to Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Gohn. The chance to have them in the USA is very low however the deal with Mitsubishi already includes the sale of electric Renaults branded Mitsubishi in the USA and Canada.

In my opinion, an electric car can be a good thing for a family, but as a second car for short distances. But the future is ahead, for electric cars (With batteries or fuel cells or...?).

The DACIA cars in EU today are very low cost (and not electric!) ...and good quality...
DACIA works superbly in Switzerland.
Making the importation of Dacia cars in the US?
He would do that could make a very good business (with low cost cars).

Dacias were sold in Canada in the early 80's, as part of a string of low cost imports (Lada, Skoda Innocenti). They were Renault 12s built in Rumania; both the sedan and station wagon were available, as well as a rear drive pick up truck derived form the R12. Build quality was low; experienced Renault mechanics substituted french ball joints, wheel bearings etc, when original parts failed as early as 30,000 km. After 3 or 4 years they disappeared from the market.
